Also housed within the Coker Life Sciences Building is the
Electron Microscopy Center with scanning and transmission electron
microscopes. The Department of Chemistry, in the adjoining
Physical Sciences Center, is also excellently equipped with
modern instrumentation including mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic
resonance spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction facilities.
The Department of Chemistry also contains the Polypeptide
Analysis Laboratory. All these facilities are available for
research use. As with any quality Research Institution the
University of South Carolina has a large diverse library. The
Thomas Cooper Library Science selection contains 150,000 volumes
of books and periodicals. The Library participates in both interlibrary
loan programs and computer assisted reference services.
