Culture and Growth Facilities, Department of Biological Sciences
Back to Biology Home Page
In addition to the culture facilities found in individual
laboratories the department has a series of environmental
chambers including chambers that allow for cycles of light
(up to 1200 microEinsteins), temperature (0 to 50 Celcius),
Carbon Dioxide (ambient to 1000 ppm) and other variables.
The on-campus marine culture facilities have been renovated
with 20,000 liters refrigerated seawater storage and multiple
recirculating culture systems. A fermentation center for
growing large quantities of microorganisms has recently been
purchased. Together these facilities permit the growth and
culture of a variety of organisms and the manipulation of
environmental conditions required for many types of experiments.
