Fulbright Graduate Student Award - Exchange Student (2012, PhD-Program, Ukraine) My pilot project, which allowed me to apply for Fulbright Fellowship, concerned studies of the natural populations of Drosophila melanogaster in Ukraine in the field of Molecular Biology and Genetics. My preliminary research has shown the increased level of HSP83 (HSP90 homolog of human) expression in flies from radioactively contaminated regions of Chernobyl, comparing to those from relatively clean regions. I have presented the data to the Student Scientific Conference in Lwiv ("Youth and Progress in Biology", April 2011). Then I was about to start another study but concerning DNA-transposons activity in these populations, but suddenly I received message they had approved my application, so far I happily moved here to the USC! With Dr. Timothy A. Mousseau we're going to continue projects on Chernobyl, but from slightly other point of view.
