Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology (MCDB)

Program of Study
The University of South Carolina offers both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biological Sciences with an emphasis in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology. The first year is primarily devoted to course work emphasizing biochemistry, cell biology, developmental biology, genetics, and molecular biology. After this, students concentrate on a selected area of biology, conducting original research under the guidance of a faculty member. Requirements for the doctoral program include two semesters of teaching, a comprehensive exam taken after the completion of coursework, and a final defense of the thesis. Requirements for the masters program include one semester of teaching, an oral examination, and a written thesis.
