Darwin's Finches, gene evolution

The biosphere is filled and shaped by a diversity of living organisms. This diversity was generated by a process of continual speciation where populations are isolated and accumulate chemical changes in their DNA, the macromolecule of inherited traits. Evolutionary biology encompasses the processes of speciation, the forces of evolution, and the adaptations of organisms to their environment.

Students

    Graduate Studies
The Dept of Biological Sciences welcomes applications from students interested in pursuing studies in Evolutionary Biology. Students typically participate in the Integrative Biology Graduate Curriculum. Interested students should contact individual faculty, as well as the Graduate Director.

    Undergraduate Studies
The Department offers both instructional and hands on learning opportunities to undergraduates. Students are welcome to participate in ongoing research in laboratories, augmented by a variety of courses focusing on evolutionary issues. Non-USC students are also welcome, supported by a NSF funded REU in Evolutionary Biology..
